The Almond Board of California May Position Report was released on Thursday, June 11th, providing additional insight to further analyze the 2025 crop size, sales, shipments, and other dynamics that will drive the market going forward.
2025 Crop Receipts
There were 3 million pounds of receipts reported for the month of May. This brings our year-to-date total receipts to 2.69 billion pounds. As deliveries continue to wind down, the data is still trending toward a total crop size of 2.7 billion pounds.
Shipments
Total shipments for the month were 217.4 million pounds. This is 2.6% higher than May of 2025. Export shipments came in at 169.1 million pounds, up 5.2% from last year. Domestic shipments were 48.3 million pounds, down 5.5% from last year. Year-to-date shipments total 2.21 billion pounds and currently trail last season’s shipments through May by 2.2%. Over the next two months, the industry will need to ship an average of 217 million pounds per month to match 2025’s total shipments. That will leave California with a carryout right around 500 million pounds.
Sales
New sales for the month of May were 138.7 million pounds, up from 89.0 million pounds last year. This put’s the industry’s overall sold position at 8.7% based on a 2.7-billion-pound crop. This puts the 2025 crop sold percentage on par with last season.

Market Summary
This month brought us another positive report for the almond industry. At this time of the year there isn’t normally any earth-shattering news in the position reports that will have a big impact on the market. Overall, supply and demand are in a pretty good balance, and prices are expected to remain stable through the last couple months of this crop year. Demand for new crop sales continues to increase as old crop inventory depletes.
The 2026 crop harvest is right around the corner, and it’s looking like it will be here a little earlier than normal. The consensus seems to be that the crop is progressing 10 days to two weeks ahead of last year. With a few growers already starting their hull split sprays, we could see harvest kicking off around mid-July. Mother Nature will have the final say, but the Harris Woolf team will be ready to receive product whenever it’s time.
