November Position Report

Dear HWA Growers,

The November 2020 Position Report was released Tuesday December 15th. The industry delivered another round of record shipment’s this month making November our fourth record in a row. Despite all the hurdles this year, California has done a great job getting product out the door.

The year-to-date crop receipts are now 2,413,926,956 pounds, which is 15.89% ahead of last November. It is starting to look like a safe bet that the 2020 crop will hit the 3-billion-pound mark. We are already within striking distance of the 2019 total and many hullers throughout the state are still processing almonds later into the season than they did in 2019.

Total shipments for the month were 263.18 million pounds, this increase is 11.6% over last year’s 235.90 million pounds. Export shipments were 195.49 million pounds, which is up 11.6% from last year. Domestic shipments came in at 67.69 million pounds, up 11.5% from last November.

New sales for the month of November were 235 million pounds. This brings the total 2020 crop sold percentage (including carry-in) to 59.9% based on a 3.0-billion-pound crop. With a 2019 carry-in of 450 million and the estimated 3-billion-pound 2020 crop there is still roughly 1.3billion pounds of unsold supply that needs to find a home.

Once again, we find ourselves with another outstanding report that does not guarantee a big upswing in pricing. The early market feedback since the report came out yesterday morning is that handlers are trying to walk up pricing and buyers seem to be pushing back against it. For the time being it looks like we will have to wait and see how this all plays out over the next few days.

Happy Holidays from everyone at Harris Woolf and as always if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to your Grower Representatives.
